The Senior Salute
A final farewell & thank you to a class that has changed CofC Basketball forever
As the 2024–25 season draws to a close, we pause to honor and celebrate the remarkable contributions of our five seniors: Derrin Boyd, CJ Fulton, Ante Brzovic, Jack Miller, and Adam Comer. Each from a different walk of life, with a different journey that all led them to the city of Charleston; thus changing the program they represented forever.
First, the two gentlemen that spent all 4 seasons in TD arena. They won back to back championships and became household names in a building that has seen a ton of star power. Jack Miller and Adam Comer have been the heart and soul of our ballclub. Their relentless work ethic and positive attitudes have been infectious. Whether in practice or games, their contributions have been vital to the squad’s cohesion and spirit. Their journey exemplifies the essence of teamwork and dedication. Thank you boys for helping raise the standard and for embodying what it means to be a Coug.
Did I mention star power?? Well then look no further, Cougar fans across the country the last two years have been blessed. We have had the opportunity to root for the best front and backcourt duo in all the land. CJ Fulton & Ante Brzovic have been must watch television.
Fulton the engine that drove the offense. His court vision and ability to orchestrate plays have been pivotal in our successes. Off the court, CJ’s commitment to academic excellence and community service has set a standard for all student-athletes, the true spirit of a Cougar. It’s why he was named the CAA Scholar Athlete of the Year. Remember he was #1 in assists to turnover ratio just a season ago and his buddies taht we fell in love with, chanted it best “CJ Fulton, the best in Ireland.” Well at the end of the day, he may finish up as the best in Charleston. Coach Mack agreed when he said, “He is one of the very best I have ever coached.” Well we say thank you CJ. You will go down as an all time legend in Charleston but we are all better for knowing you.
Next Ante Brzovic. I mean what do you say. He has been a monster in the paint and on the glass since he arrived in the low-country. His tenacity on the boards and defensive presence have anchored our team. All class but let’s be honest, he might be the best player in all of mid-major basketball. Baby-Joker dominated night in and night out! But beyond basketball, Ante’s involvement in local outreach programs has endeared him to the community, reflecting the values we hold dear. That’s why he will be missed dearly on the hard floor but the ‘Croatian Sensation’ will always be able to call Charleston, home.
Lastly the dude who we just got to meet and boy are we lucky we did. Derrin Boyd, a graduate student from Princeton, Kentucky, joined us from Lipscomb, where he led his team with 17.6 points per game a season ago. He made the decision for his final season of collegiate ball to come join the Cougs. His transition to Charleston brought not only his scoring prowess but also invaluable leadership. Derrin’s dedication to mentoring our underclassmen has fostered a culture of excellence and camaraderie within the squad. But think about how incredible his season really was. Deebo is coming off an injury that quite literally happened a little over a year ago. He didn’t just fight his tail off to be healthy and return to form, but actually even get better. A 3rd team all-CAA selection this year, Deebo on both ends of the floor personified a true pro’s pro.
This season, these seniors led us to a 24-9 overall record and a 13-5 mark in CAA play. But throw the records out the window, their impact & legacy stretches far greater.
As they embark on new chapters, we express our deepest gratitude for their dedication, leadership, and the legacy they leave behind. Their contributions have elevated our program and will inspire future Cougars for years to come. Thank you, seniors, for the memories and the milestones.
We salute you.
