HUMMMMMM BABEEEE. Ladies & gentlemen, it is big game day. Buckle up for a thrilling showdown tonight at Segra Park. Your College of Charleston Cougars take on the South Carolina Gamecocks in Columbia, South Carolina, at 6:30 sharp. This matchup marks the first time these two teams have faced each other since May 9, 2018, when Charleston secured a 9-0 victory.
The Gamecocks, who just opened up SEC play & suffered an extra-inning loss during their rubber match on Sunday against the #12-ranked Oklahoma Sooners, are looking to get that sour taste out of their mouths. They will attempt to continue their dominance in the midweek, as they have all season long.
In the other dugout, the Cougars have been preparing for this midweek clash as part of their 2025 campaign, which has included a stacked non-conference slate, taking on some of the best teams in the loaded Sun Belt Conference so far. As a response to last year’s 40+ win season still not earning an at-large bid, there has been a massive push to bolster the RPI. Nights like tonight have the potential to hold massive implications at year’s end, but more importantly, it serves as a special night to flex our stuff against one of the biggest names in our sport.
For legendary Head Coach Chad Holbrook, it’s an opportunity to square off with his old employer. Sure, there is a little added excitement for him & his family, but his demeanor this year should have all Cougar fans excited as hell. It’s all about his players—the opportunity to create memories in a professional ballpark and play on ESPN+ is why he got into coaching.
So before everyone dives headfirst into March Madness this weekend, just know tonight's game promises to be a memorable experience for all baseball enthusiasts! The Cougs & the Cocks will be appointment television.
