The Junior from Germany is Absolutely Dominating the Boards

In a season filled with historic moments for College of Charleston Women’s Basketball, one player has been an absolute force in the paint—junior forward Lara Rohkohl. The German standout has cemented her name in the CofC record books, setting a new program record for most offensive rebounds in a single season with a staggering 123 and counting.
That’s a statement. A statement that defines Rohkohl’s relentless hustle, her sheer physicality, and her ability to give the Cougars crucial second-chance opportunities in key moments. And if you’ve been following the team’s latest stretch, you know she’s been playing at an entirely different level.
Rohkohl has been a rebounding machine over the past few games, racking up monster performances:
@ Hampton: 13 rebounds
@ William & Mary: 15 rebounds
@ UNCW: 19 rebounds
Through 24 games, Rohkohl is nearly averaging a double-double with 9.8 points and 9.5 rebounds per game, while shooting an impressive 64.5% from the field. Her efficiency, toughness, and knack for positioning herself in the right spots have made her an irreplaceable presence in the Cougars’ front court.
What makes her leap this season even more remarkable is the journey she’s taken to get here. Just last year, she started only five games, averaging 3.4 points and 3.6 rebounds per contest. Before transferring to Charleston, she put together a solid freshman campaign at Central Connecticut, but it’s safe to say this season has been her true breakout moment.
Rohkohl’s dominance on the boards isn’t happening in a vacuum—it’s fueling one of the best seasons in College of Charleston women’s basketball history. The Cougars have been on a tear, stacking up wins and competing for their first NCAA appearance in program history.
But make no mistake—this has been a full team effort. Taryn Barbot, the Cougars’ leading scorer and emotional leader, has been sensational all season, providing the offensive firepower that complements Rohkohl’s rebounding dominance. Her twin, Taylor Barbot, has also been a key contributor, bringing defensive intensity and playmaking to the backcourt. McKinley Brooks-Sumpter has been another key piece of this puzzle, adding size, versatility, and depth to Charleston’s lineup.
Second-chance points, extra possessions, momentum-shifting plays—these are all things that don’t always show up in the box score, but they’ve been a huge part of Charleston’s success this season. And when you have a player like Rohkohl who’s willing to battle for every loose ball and fight through traffic for offensive rebounds, it gives the entire team an edge.
Her ability to keep plays alive and provide a tough interior presence has allowed the Cougars to control games on both ends of the floor. When the offense stalls? Rohkohl is there to clean it up. When a key defensive stop is needed? She’s there to protect the rim. Her grit and toughness have helped set the tone for this group, and they aren’t slowing down anytime soon.
With the postseason looming, the Cougars are locked in on making history, and Rohkohl will continue to be a driving force behind their success. Opponents know she’s going to be a problem—but knowing is one thing, stopping her is another.
