Kieron van Wyk Captures Hootie Title Amidst Red-Hot Season
The accolades keep piling up for the Senior Cougar Golfer
Kieron van Wyk had another outstanding week, capturing the individual title at the prestigious Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate and earning his third CAA Golfer of the Week honor this season.
At Bulls Bay, van Wyk showcased his elite golfing ability, finishing at -14 to secure the victory by two strokes. His bogey-free final round was a masterclass in shot-making and composure, featuring six birdies and an eagle. The win marked his second individual title of the season and solidified his place among the top collegiate golfers in the country.
But the Hootie win is just the latest highlight in what has been a blistering season for the College of Charleston junior.
Just days before his victory at Bulls Bay, van Wyk teed it up at the PGA Tour’s Valspar Championship in Tampa, Florida. Though he missed the cut, the opportunity to compete at one of the highest levels of professional golf was a valuable milestone in his development.
Earlier this season, van Wyk turned heads across the golf world when he finished 4th at the PGA Tour’s Puerto Rico Open, going 19-under-par and holding his own against a field of seasoned pros. That finish came on the heels of his historic win at Torrey Pines, where he became the first amateur to ever win an APGA Tour event, claiming the title at the Farmers Insurance Invitational.
Add it all up, and van Wyk’s 2025 campaign has been nothing short of electric. He’s now a 2-time CAA Golfer of the Year, 3-time First Team All-CAA selection, and 2-time CAA Individual Champion, with another strong postseason looming. He’s also firmly on the Haskins Award Watchlist, which honors the top collegiate golfer in the country.
With his combination of elite talent, mental toughness, and growing experience at the professional level, van Wyk has become one of the fastest rising stars in all of golf.
