Cougars Land First Team All-CAA Standout Colby Duggan in Massive Portal Pickup
The Cougars are officially on the board in the transfer portal — and they’ve opened with a big statement.
Colby Duggan, a 6’7” forward from Campbell and First Team All-CAA selection, has committed to the College of Charleston. Duggan was one of the most coveted players in the portal this spring after a breakout season in which he averaged 15.7 points per game on 46.1% shooting and led the CAA in scoring during conference play. He’s a skilled, tough, all-around forward who can shoot it, post up, create off the dribble, defend, and rebound. A real weapon — and a huge pickup for Charleston.
National programs came calling — Butler, Providence, Seton Hall, Richmond, and Ohio State, to name a few — but Duggan chose Charleston. He wanted to play a major role for a team built to win, and that’s exactly what Coach Chris Mack is putting together in the Lowcountry.
Duggan’s arrival comes at a critical moment. Charleston is in the middle of a significant roster reset after a 24-win season, with Ante Brzovic, Lazar Djokovic, Elijah Jones, Derrin Boyd, AJ Smith, Deywilk Tavarez, CJ Fulton, Adam Comer, Jack Miller, and Evan Kilminster all graduating or moving on. That’s a long list of contributors, which makes the need for impact additions even more urgent — and makes Duggan’s commitment that much more important.
CofC is going into this portal cycle with purpose, backed by a robust NIL budget that puts the program in position to compete for high-level talent and remain right where it belongs — at the top of the CAA and in the hunt for another March run.
Duggan brings big-game experience and real versatility to the Cougars. He scored 32 points in a road game at North Carolina earlier this season — the most any player put up against the Tar Heels all year — and he’s expected to make an immediate impact on both ends of the floor at TD Arena.
He’s the first addition of the offseason. And if you’ve been paying attention to how this staff operates, he won’t be the last. The reload is underway. And Charleston is coming with serious intent.
