Now We Go!
A college baseball season can be broken down into three phases. Stick with me here—because over the course of 56 regular season games, this sport can be draining. There’s all the excitement in the world for opening day, which kicks off Phase 1. Your non-conference schedule includes preseason tournaments and big midweek showdowns—it’s easy to be ready to rumble.
Phase 2 is conference play: the opportunity to win a ring and flex on rivals down the road.
Phase 3 is the postseason. That’s self-explanatory—it’s where legends are born.
Tomorrow, we kick off Phase 2, and for your College of Charleston Cougars, it’s a shot at redemption. If last year taught us anything, it’s that we can’t leave our postseason fate up to a committee. This year is about controlling our own destiny, winning every day, and making a statement to the rest of the CAA.
And there’s no better way to start conference play than with arguably one of the best Friday night starters in mid-major baseball. Whitestone, N.Y. native Jake Brink has been lights out. The 2025 Preseason All-CAA First Team selection was also ranked the No. 4 MLB Draft prospect in the entire conference. He’s off to his best start as a Cougar, posting a 3.54 ERA over five appearances. With a 2-1 record and 24 strikeouts across 28 innings of work, it’s been a thrill to watch this young man deliver every Friday night at Patriots Point.
There’s plenty to be excited about in the Lowcountry this weekend, including the debut of the new Container Suite—open for all three games against the Elon Phoenix. First pitch is set for 6:00 PM Friday, 2:00 PM Saturday, and 1:00 PM Sunday.
Hear more from Head Coach Chad Holbrook in our Coach’s Corner interview, as we check in with the boys in the dugout.
So don’t meet me there—beat me there. College of Charleston baseball, just like the weather, is heating up!
See ya this weekend.
