Another Sweep for Charleston Softball as Cougars Stay Hot in CAA Play
The College of Charleston Softball team continued its strong season with a sweep over CAA rival Towson at Patriots Point, outscoring the Tigers 23-6 across three games. The sweep—Charleston’s third in conference play—improves the Cougars to 21-22 overall and 12-6 in the CAA, solidifying their spot in fifth place with major momentum heading into the final stretch.
Friday’s opener saw the Cougars jump out early and never look back, with key hits from Austy Miller, Kennedy Rhue, and a two-run blast from Jay Wrightsman powering a 6-3 win. Kendall Thackston and Izzy Alley combined to close it out in the circle.
Charleston followed it up Saturday with a six-run second inning that set the tone for a 9-1 win. Halle Cannon and Leela Langston came through with big RBIs, and Mackenzie Mathis was dominant on the mound, retiring 11 straight batters at one point. Her CAA ERA now sits at a stellar 1.52.
Sunday’s finale was another offensive showcase. Austy Miller and Sierra Paradis each crushed three-run homers, and Ryley Kutter went the distance with seven strikeouts in an 8-2 win. Miller finished the weekend 5-for-11 with five RBIs and extended her hitting streak to five games.
Charleston is now 8-0 in their last eight home games and has set a new program record with 11 CAA home wins this season. Under head coach Tracey Lynch Vernon, the Cougars continue to trend upward and look like a real threat down the stretch.
The team travels across town tonight to take on Charleston Southern before heading north for a weekend showdown with Hofstra. With their confidence and chemistry building, the Cougars are making a serious push in CAA play—and they’re not slowing down anytime soon.
